I really love stacking firewood.
I love the way the wood smells and how it sounds when you hit one piece with another. I love that I can get a bit of exercise while being outside and enjoying the cool Fall air.
I love that I get to spend time chatting with my husband if we are working together or, if I’m alone, time thinking and dreaming. It’s very meditative.
It may sound corny but when I’m throwing and stacking wood or feeding wood into our stove I’m reminded of how connected we are to everything around us. I’m much more aware of how heating my home impacts the environment than when I can just turn the thermostat up or down.
It’s so easy to get disconnected from nature, especially when it’s freezing outside, so I appreciate the chance to reconnect or at least the reminder that I should get outside and enjoy it’s beauty.
And wood heat is just so cozy!
