3 Frugal Uses for Citrus Peels

Oranges are in season now so we have been buying and eating a ton of them. I just love the smell of a freshly peeled orange and it seems wasteful to put something that smells so nice in the compost.

So I decided to try and use them before tossing them. Here are a few ideas:

Citrus Peel Vinegar Cleaner

 What you need:

  • Orange peels (lemon and lime peels work too)
  • White vinegar

What you do:

Save your orange peels and put them in a glass jar. Fill the jar with white vinegar. Let it sit for a couple of weeks and then use it in place of regular vinegar in this homemade green cleaner recipe.

Orange Peel Potpourri

What you need:

  • Orange peels
  • Cinnamon
  • Cloves

What you do:

Throw all of the ingredients in a pot of water (or if you have a kettle on your woodstove you can use that) and let it simmer.

Garbage Disposal Cleaner

What you need:

  • Citrus peels
  • Ice cubes
  • A garbage disposal

What you do:

Throw the citrus peels and ice cubes into the disposal and turn it on.

What other ways do you use citrus peels?
